CZECH REPUBLIC

Vegan, Erasmus Yearly Project
"I am going just briefly introduce our project. We are a group of six girls, although only four of us are coming to Connect Conference. Two other decided to help us and support us. As our topic we chose enviroment. We came up with several ideas (like fashion show with second-hand clothes, workshop with making something new from used plastic and so on). In the end we agreed on eating vegan food for ten days. After these ten days we prepared a presentatiton for our schoolmates about how the animal production impacts our planet. We also shared how we felt and our tips. As a part of our presentation we prepare some food as well.
The  whole time we took photos of our food, shared our ideas, receipts, discussed our struggles and have a really good time."

Don’t live in a lie, Eramus Yearly Project

Czech republic is celebrating 100th anniversary since its establishment after The First World War in 1918. Our country lives in the middle of Europe and that is the reason why we’re sometimes called „the heart of Europe“. But this heart of Europe got tied down in 1948 by communism. Working class became the force of the state after The Second World War.
Communism in Czech republic lasted whole forty years. Whole forty years of innocent people getting murdered a persecuted. Human rights and their freedom were violated everyday for almost half century. This misery ended in 1989 when communist system fell. Now, 29 years after the great change which we’re calling The Velvet revolution (because no one died during this), the communist party is taking a huge part in our government system again. It seems like no one has learned from history and everyone is heading to the same times we were in. But how do people learn from history when don’t have the knowledge? Only few student really know what was happening in our country in 20th century. And that is exactly what we were trying to change.
We started in our school where we prepared a presentation „Don’t live in a lie“. We introduced our generation to what was happening in Czech republic during communist era, we spoke about what communism actually is, what is it’s principles and how it worked in real life. But we wanted it to be more specially, and because none of us really lived through these ages, we decided to invite Mr. Žídek, who was a political prisoner. Only reason he got into prison, was his passion for education. He did not want to study at Czech university because he did not like the communist principle and he wanted to go to study to Switzerland. When he was about to cross the borders, he got arrested and imprisonated for betraying the country.
We believe that a lot of students understood what was really happening at times of communism in Czech republic and that they learned from it. The quote „Those who do not know their history are meant to repeat it.“ became our motto.
Our wish is for our country never to be led by this evil might ever again and for all the people to be able to live like free spirits that they deserve to be.
