Andrea De La Cruz Barral

workshop host, media and society

Andrea works as a creative facilitator and researcher. She attended Waldorf School in Madrid before moving to the UK to study Drama and Theatre Arts. She graduated with two different degrees in Community Theatre (Edinburgh) and Performing Arts (London). Between 2011-2015 she worked as an events producer and theatre producer in London. Amongst other projects, she managed a network of young unemployed people starting a career in the creative industries through government funded internships and apprenticeships. Her love and interest in young creative people led her to the Waldorf Teacher Training and to study Anthroposophy in Dornach. She is now working at  the Goetheanum’s Youth Section.

Imagine this: It's 2030. More than 10 years have passed since Trump's appointment, Brexit, the Syrian Refugee Crisis and the release of the first water-resistant iPhone. We are no longer mourning Bowie, Muhammad Ali, Prince or Princess Leia and hopefully by now, the Arctic is holding up a little better - or is it?

Our workshop will unpack, analyse and contrast past and present world news in order to IMAGINE what our radios, newspapers, TVs and social media feeds will tell about us in the future. We will make full use of our creativity and passion for global causes to pre-write the news, constructing narratives that reflect our hopes for the coming years and the world we live in. We will work with newspaper articles, radio interviews, TV news, blogs, tweets, etc. to explore what the news tell about our communities and how responsible the media is for the creation of our own identities. Based on an analysis of our past, can we predict what will be broadcasted in the future?
